Windmills – Campo de Criptana

They are the hallmark of Campo de Criptana that inspired Miguel de Cervantes to write chapter VII of the first part of Don Quixote.

Criptana had 34 windmills, today there are 10 ‘giants’ that have been restored. The mills ‘Sardinero’, ‘Infante’ and ‘Burleta’ were declared Sites of Cultural Interest in 1978.

Villarrobledo Carnival

Declared of National Tourist Interest, the Villarrobledo carnivals are one of the most important in Spain, being also one of the most participative. For more than a week, everything in Villarrobledo is Carnival. Amongst the official celebrations, the Murgas and Chirigotas contest, and the Adult and Children’s parades stand out. But it is the locals who make the Carnival a big deal, putting on shows in the streets and squares, with their own costumes, each one more original than the next. The whole of Villarrobledo is, at this time of year, one big fancy dress party.

Villarrobledo Fair

The Villarrobledo Fair attracts tourists from all over Spain. It has been held between 14th and 19th August since 1845 and has maintained its popularity since its beginnings. For a few days Villarrobledo offers an exceptional atmosphere, it is the time chosen for family reunions, and for the return of those who once left but have not lost their roots.
